Sex Toys 101

Written by:

Hey slayers💕, did you know that May is international masturbation month? Either way, we’re going to talk a little about masturbation and then get into a few toys you could find at your local adult toy store.

Masturbation is the act of giving yourself sexual pleasure. Enjoying yourself however you want. Free to experiment and play around without any perceptions of judgment.

Masturbation does not always have to end in an orgasm. Much emphasis is placed on “The Big O”, but this time can also be used to connect with your body.

There are SO many sex toys. SO MANY. So if I don’t cover your favorite make sure to leave it in the comments so I know for next time.

Toys

Anal Toys

Anal Beads: When I first think about anal beads, I picture plastic beads on a string with an end that you can hook a finger in to pull them out. It’s worth mentioning because you won’t find anal beads like that anymore. Due to the fact that string you are using as internal butt floss may be hard to clean the more you use it. Anal beads still have the same foundation, only now materials such as latex, glass, rubber, and metal are used.

Butt Plug: A bulbous shaped knob with a flared base. Popular materials for butt plugs are silicone and metal. They could be made out of glass as well. It’s important to have a flared base with any form of anal toy because the anal cavity could suck it right up. Some butt plugs may also come with a vibrating function. Some may even have a tail (bunny, fox, cat, puppy) on the end.

Personal Favorite: A bejeweled metal plug. Nothing fancy, but I do have some tails I need to try.

Dildos

Dildo: A toy that is made for penetration. Appearance may vary depending on what you’re looking for. Some dildos are made to be paired with a harness. Some have a suction cup on the bottom to be stuck to the wall or floor. Some may vibrate. The world of dildos is vast.

Double Ended: A dildo with two sides that can be used for penetration. I’ve predominantly seen these made out of a jelly like material.

Fantasy: Tentacles. Knots. Tongues. I can show you better than I can tell you. I present to you Bad Dragon.

G-Spot: A dildo that is intentionally made with a curve for G-spot stimulation.

Realistic: These are toys that are made from materials that give it a skin like appearance. Some realistic dildos may even have a squirting mechanism. As in you can fill it up with a liquid that is supposed to mimic semen and pump it on out.

Personal Favorite: Icicles No. 24

Strokers

Fleshlight: Think of a flashlight. Now hollow out the flashlight and insert a soft center. This opening of this soft center could look like an anus, a mouth, or a vagina. I need to do more research on fleshlights. I know you have the ones where you need to do a handjob formation and others that are just straight up sucking you off. Sucking you off as in it has mechanics where it can slurp and grip all its own.

Torso: Exactly what it sounds like. A small torso (just torso. no legs. no head) with two holes for a vagina and anus at the bottom.

Personal Favorite: [Redacted]

Vibrators

Body Wand: In my opinion, the most infamous body wand is the hitachi. A toy that is shaped like a microphone and can give you powerful vibrations.

Bullet: A small vibrator that could fit in your pocket. These are predominantly for external stimulation. You might find these by the counter of the sex toy store on your way out.

G-Spot: Vibe made with a curve. It serves the same purpose as a g-spot dildo, and it can vibrate.

Rabbit: A vibe that was made to provide both internal and external stimulation.

Remote Control/Hands Free: Not shaped like a remote, this vibrator comes with a remote. This allows you (or a partner) to control your pleasure.

Suction: The Rose. Need I say more? Toys such as the Rose use suction and vibration for a unique experience.

Personal Favorite: Magic Wand Rechargeable

Lube

Lube is great. Lube should be used more often. Let’s talk about oil, silicone, and water based lube real quick.

Oil: Long lasting and it might be the best lube to use for play in the shower.

Silicone: Silky texture and is not recommended to use with silicone toys.

Water: This lube can be used with silicone toys or condoms. It’s also gentle on the skin and easier than other bases to wash away.

Toy Tips

  • Clean toys thoroughly before and after each use. Toy cleaner is sold at most sex toy stores, and you can also use soap that is unscented. Something you would use on your own genitals.
  • Be aware of the material(s) your toys are made out of. Not all materials on the market are safe to put in your body.
  • Porous vs Non-Porous. Porous means the toy has little holes (like pores on the skin) that could make it harder to clean. These areas could be susceptible to bacteria and spreading infection. Non-Porous means there are no small holes for bacteria to linger. Toys such as this are less likely to spread bacteria since you’re able to clean it thoroughly.

Did I cover your favorite kind of toy? Did you learn something new today? Is there a new toy you’re thinking about trying? Is there a toy you are looking to see covered in ‘Sex Toy 102’?

Yes, there will be a 102 because the world of sex toys is VAST. And I want to make space to talk about sex dolls and sex machines. Is a sex doll a sex machine?🤔 I’m sure there might be a few out there that could be considered a sex machine, but when I think sex doll, I think about a life size barbie basically.

Thank you for reading! Thank you for stopping by. I had a lot of fun working on this one. These toys have history! Fun fact: creators of the rabbit also made other toys featuring animals, but the rabbit was THE absolute hit. You can check out the full article breaking it all down here, ‘The History of the Rabbit Vibrator’.

Would you want more history on your favorite sex toys? Because I feel like doing the research.
